Congratulations 3 East you have made it to the last week of classes! You have worked so hard and I decided you deserved a treat. I know that finals is a stressful time so I thought you needed this. In fact there have been studies that show how snacking while studying is a great thing for you to do! Studying uses energy and you can become burned out really fast if you don’t fuel up. Some other snacks that help are berries, sunflower seeds and drinks that help are green tea and orange juice! I hope this helps you with studying and good luck on finals!
As we finish up the long holiday of thanksgiving. we approach all of the stress of the upcoming finals week I put up an entire bulletin board of bubble wrap to help ease stress.
I wanted to inform my residents of the signs of abuse if their roommate exhibits any of the signals. I chose to do a Dalmatian because they have spots and each spot has information and tips to help a friend who’s struggling
A big thanks to everyone who stopped by our table on Wednesday. We got quick a few people to sign pledges, and they got some free lipstick. We still have some left over though so we may hand out lipstick and pledges around the hall. Hopefully we can continue to make more people aware of the problem of rape and sexual assault. And lets keep showing out support for the survivors.
I saw some great make up tricks and manacures at this event. And I saw some people were glowing after their facials.
Good evening Ladies.
I wanted to take the time to write a post about the amazing speaker we went to go see tonight. His name was Monti Washington, and he has given one of the best United We Stand speeches I have ever heard in my 5 years here. Monti was a kid who grew up on the streets sleeping in cardboard boxes and abusive foster homes. Now, he is a college graduate, worldwide motivational speaker, actor, book writer, and poet. He came to share his wisdom with the students on our campus, and now I hope to summarize what I learned for you all.
“From living on the streets of your fears, to the stage of your dreams,” this was Monti’s motto for us tonight and it is truly inspiring. For he has done this with his life. Monti has worked so hard to change his life from one in the streets, to one on stage motivating and encouraging others. He accomplished his dreams by working hard and setting goals for himself. Monti was brave enough to share his life story with us. He talked about living on the streets and sleeping in parks, and he talked about the abuse he suffered at the hands of his foster parents. It was truly heartbreaking to hear him talk. But instead of wallowing in his own depression and self dought, Monti turned his life around into a successful, fulfilling life.
Monti told us that if we want to be successful in life, we need to be confident. We need to be confident in ourselves and our abilities. Because how can we expect to have a level 10 dream career is we are not confident.
Another thing Monti talked about is setting goals. We need to be able to set goals for ourselves in life if we want to continue to improve and move forward. It is important to have goals for every stage of life. So tonight, I encourage you to do the same. Set a goal that you want to achieve by the end of the semester, a goal you want to achieve by the end of graduation, and a goal for 5 years from now/ 5 years after graduation. However, when making these goal it is important to make sure they are specific. So if one of your goals is to get a good GPA, be specific! Say your going to get a 3.4 or higher GPA.
And one final thing. I talked a little bit about Monti’s past and all the struggles he has to over come. I want you all to keep that in mind the next time you are going through tough times. Your struggles do not have to be what hold you back in life. We all have potential to be successful, but that does not mean that the success will come easy. We need to work to get good grades, to get degrees, and to get careers. And we can use our lifes struggles to get us to our end goals. We just need to keep telling ourselves that our past does not have to be what defines us. We all have skeletons in our closes, fears in our minds and hearts, but if we just work hard enough and try to over come all of those things we can be unstoppable. No one can tell us we wont reach our goals.
This is just a quick summation of what Monti talked about tonight. There was more that I was unable to capture in this short post but I hope some of the few things I have passed on will help you all during stressful times.
